Sad to think that when Johnny Miller shot 63 at Oakmont, it was iconic, yet if someone does it at Merion over the next four days, it will trigger talk of an experiment failed and maybe the end for this dainty yet deadly course as a Major venue.
We live in hope that Hugh Wilson's craftmanship - and not just the Open's tricked-down rough - prevails.
